The Brighton Drum School was established as an industry connected drum school in 2010 by one of the UK's most prominent player-educators, Pat Garvey, providing access to the very best in 1:1 learning and support, professional mentoring, coaching, career guidance & support, and consultation services for all ages & levels, with students now coming from all over the UK & wider world.

About The Brighton Drum School


As a player. Ben has been Rag N' Bone Man’s drummer since 2013 touring worldwide and playing various Headline Tours. During this time, Rag n Bone Man has won various awards including 3 Brit Awards, 2 Echo Awards, four hit UK Singles and 2 chart topping albums with with the first, Human, achieving Multi-Platinum and Gold status in many countries. Alongside this Ben is a successful session drummer performing for various artists including Dua Lippa, Robyn Ottolini, Mathilde, the Noble Jacks amongst others.
As an educator, Ben is the Program Leader of Music at BN1 arts Brighton, a Senior Lecturer at BIMM University and a sought after private drum Tutor and career mentor. Ben has previously taught for for East Sussex Music Service running various Rock School, Samba and band projects alongside drum kit tuition. He continues to appear at drum masterclasses, clinics and events across the UK such as the UK drum show, London Drum show, The Drummers Odyssey and Freddie G drum camps.
Together with over 15 years teaching experience, Ben is a qualified teacher with a PG Cert qualification in Learning and Teaching.
As a player Pat is the drummer in Ozric Tentacles with whom he tours internationally and performs at major festivals all over the world. He has worked internationally as a professional musician for nearly 30 years and is regarded as one of the UK's most prominent player-educators.

As well as founding The Brighton Drum School in 2010, as an educator Pat is Head of Drums & Principal Lecturer at BIMM University in the UK where he also lectures in popular music history and personal and professional development. He guests teaches & performs on iconic drum camps like Freddie Gee Drum Academy in the UK, has written over 300 educational articles for various industry magazines & webzines including iDrum Magazine and the iconic Rhythm Magazine & he gives regular masterclasses & guest talks under his own name & at industry events for sponsors. His own play-along book ‘LAWLESS’ was published in 2015, & again digitally in 2019.

As well as his extensive professional experience he is also a qualified teacher, holding a PGCert & a master’s degree and in Learning and Teaching
Past students of The Brighton Drum School include 100’s that have gone on to work successfully in many different areas of the creative industries worldwide as well as many that have been taught, trained, mentored and coached to work as freelance instrumental teachers and practitioners across the UK, including some that have gone on to teach at BIMM University, BN1 Arts, Royal Northern College of Music, WaterBear, Sussex University, Chichester University, LCCM, Create Music & West Sussex Music amongst others.
